Software Systems Evaluation

In Florida, there are approximately 10 software systems being used across districts to collect data on serious incidents of violence and substance use. With this variability, there has arisen a wide variety of issues regarding software system design:

  1. An inability to enter incidents that involve non-students.
  2. Failures to incorporate local level codes into software system design, resulting in the over-reporting of SESIR incidents.
  3. Flawed software programming designs that inappropriately link SESIR incidents to non-SESIR disciplinary actions.
  4. Incomplete menus that do not allow data input personnel to select the appropriate incident type.
  5. Failure to incorporate additional data reporting elements required to be reported to the state, such as drug type and weapon type.
  6. The lack of a safeguard against saving records with incomplete data.
