About SDFS

The Florida Safe and Drug-Free Schools Quality Data Management (SDFS-QDM) Project is a three-year data management grant running under contract with the Florida Department of Education and funded through federal education-related legislation and reform.

Mission: The project increases the capacity of Florida’s schools and communities to collect, analyze, and use data to improve the quality of drug and violence prevention and intervention programs.

  • School Environmental Safety Incident Report (SESIR): Project staff members are instrumental in the creation of the SESIR report, an annual publication of the Florida Department of Education that reports statistics on incidents of violence, substance use, and disciplinary responses in Florida schools.
  • Training and Technical Assistance: Project staff members provide training and technical assistance to enhance the accuracy of data reported on serious incidents of violence and substance use in Florida schools.
  • Software Systems Evaluation: Staff members work with database management personnel to review the design and programming of software systems used to track incident of violence and substance use in Florida schools.
  • The Florida School Environment Survey (FSES): The FSES is a school-level survey developed by staff for the Florida Department of Education. It is currently being administered in several Florida school districts at the middle and high-school level.
  • Community-Based Organization (CBO) Data: Project staff members are working with the Office of Drug Control (ODC) to develop a database system that tracks CBO programming characteristics and mid-year monitoring reports.
