The Florida School Environment Survey (FSES)

The Florida School Environment Survey (FSES)

The FSES is a self-report survey designed to provide schools with data on issues regarding school violence and substance abuse in Florida’s middle and high schools. An advantage of the FSES is that it provides data at the individual school level, only the major surveys currently being administered in the state (FYSAS, YRBS, FYTS) provide data at the district-level, which can mask variation in behaviors within a single district. Moreover, the FSES considers additional issues:

  1. Bullying behaviors and victimization
  2. Cyber-stalking
  3. Self-control
  4. Environmental context
  5. Time spent on various social activities

The combination of the FSES self-report data and the SESIR data provided to schools will significantly increase the capacity of schools to identify appropriate prevention and intervention strategies and programming.
