About JJEEP

The Juvenile Justice Educational Enhancement Program (JJEEP) provides Quality Assurance (QA) reviews and technical assistance to nearly 200 Florida juvenile justice education programs. It is funded by the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) and executed by the Florida State University Center for Criminology and Public Policy Research.

Mission: JJEEP ensures high-quality, comprehensive educational services to students in the Florida juvenile justice program.

  • Quality Assurance:: Annual QA reviews are a valuable method of assisting providers and school districts with achieving, evaluating, and maintaining high-quality educational programs in juvenile justice facilities.
  • Technical Assistance: JJEEP's educational reviewers provide technical assistance to programs to guide them in making improvements. Technical assistance is guided by research in current best practices and is provided on site during the QA review or through recommendations in the final QA report. Programs can also request technical assistance.
  • Research: JJEEP conducts research relating to delinquency and education including program evaluation, literature reviews and longitudinal research on youth released from commitment programs in Florida.
  • Events and News: Read about upcoming trainings and conferences, juvenile justice education related news, and deadlines
  • Staff: Center staff have advanced degrees in many disciplines, including criminology, criminal justice, statistics, sociology, political science, public administration, and education. They collaborate with researchers and policymakers nationwide and maintain relationships with several federal and state agencies as well as local-level stakeholders in the prevention, juvenile justice education, and criminal justice communities.
  • History: In June 1998, the College of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida State University began a project with DOE to conduct quality assurance reviews and conduct research related to Florida’s juvenile justice educational programs. This program was named the Juvenile Justice Educational Enhancement Program (JJEEP).
  • Statutory Authority: The Florida Legislature has enacted important and comprehensive legislation regarding juvenile justice educational programs and the educational services provided by these programs.
